- Dr. Yang Won Nah started his academic career as an instructor in the field of hepatobiliary & pancreas (HBP) surgery and liver transplantation in 1993 at Seoul Paik Hospital, Inje University College of Medicine under the guidance of professor Hyucksang Lee who is one of the founders of HBP surgery and liver transplantation in Korea.
- He moved to Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine in 2000 to get clinical experience on living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) under the guidance of Professor Sung Gyu Lee who established LDLT as a solid modality to treat end-stage liver disease.
- After moving to Ulsan University Hospital in 2001, Dr. Yang Won Nah personally performed more than 1000 hepatectomies and more than 500 pancreatectomies (including 350 pancreatoduodenectomies) and nearly 100 major hepatectomy plus bile duct resection for perihilar cholangioarcinoma and 227 liver transplantation during the last 20 years. Laparoscopic hepatectomy and laparoscopic pancreatectomy are included in these figures. Regarding hepatectomy for primary liver cancer, anatomical hepatectomy along either the major hepatic venous system or the Glisson cord is the principle he pursues to follow.
- In the field of pancreatobiliary surgery, his interest is nowadays focusing on the combined arterial resection to achieve a margin negative resection. This work is inspired by liver transplantation. In addition, he performed more than 260 adrenalectomies, mostly laparoscopically. He started robot adrenalectomy, hepatectomy, and pancreatectomy in 2019.
- Dr. Yang Won Nah got scientific awards from the Korean Association of HBP Surgery 4 times. He got the Ulsan City Academic Award of the year 2014. He served as the 17th president of the Korean Association of HBP Surgery
- Dr. Yang Won Nah served as the Vice President and Chief Education Officer of Ulsan University Hospital and vice dean of the University of Ulsan College of Medicine.
- Currently, Dr. Yang Won Nah is a board member of the Korean Surgical Society, Korean Society for Organ Transplantation, and Korean Liver Transplantation Society.
