My interest in wound healing began at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research where I became the Director of the Division of Surgery responsible for a program of research focused on militarily relevant surgical issues including wound healing. I continued this work at the Washington VA Hospital and over the last 16 years at Johns Hopkins. Currently I direct the Surgical Research program at Johns Hopkins Bayview at the Hendrix Burn/Wound Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University. The focus of the laboratory is the utilization of endogenous stem cells to promote tissue repair and regeneration.
